depending on what it is you might have cross contamination with meat products so that is the only reason I can think of. at one time they fried their french fries in beef fat. that is what gave them their flavor. That's pretty funny, as if traces of burger may appear in your milkshake, or a spatter of burger grease may land on an apple possibly causing distress to a vegetarian...
