I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla with 104,000 miles on it. Ever since I bought the car I have had it serviced by the dealership and they have always indicated to change the oil every 3,000 miles, even though the owners manual says 5,000. I have done so, and have had no problems with this vehicle at all. After my last oil change in October, I noticed that on the reminder sticker on the windshield, they indicate to get my next oil change in April or at 114,000 miles. Does a car no longer need frequent oil changes after certain mileage or are they just hoping that it will break down and I will have to buy another car? Long question, but I was just wondering if there is a reason not to change the oil frequently on a higher mileage vehicle.
