Why does my CD/DVD drive close automatically after opening it?

I recently added a hard drive to my computer, and it is hooked up to the CD/DVD drive with the problem. I believe the disc drive is set to slave, and the hard drive to master. But sometimes when I open the disc tray, it'll close automatically, without me even pushing the button! Why is that? How can I fix that?
