Why does my Norton Anti-Virus turn off everytime I go on the Internet?

I recently downloaded that Internet Explorer 8, and ever since I did that my Norton's been turning off whenever I click to go on the Internet. How can I make it stop doing that?
 
Get rid of it and go get Avast or AVG. Norton is a resource hog and it wouldn't find a virus if the software came with one.
