Why does my taskbar always end up on the right on startup?

Everytime I turn on my computer, my taskbar is seen on the bottom right of my screen with enough space only for one window. I always have to manually drag it back to the left to make space for more windows. Why does it do this? How can I make it permanently stay on the left side. I hate unlocking my taskbar all the time just to drag it back to the left.

By the way, I have Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron Laptop.
