why does my truck turn off when i put it in gear?

i have an 89 dodge ramcharger with a 5.2 engine. i turn it on and it idles a little rough but after reaching normal temperature it runs fine, but when I put it in reverse or drive it boggs down and shuts off. Any Idea why

the tcc switch in the transmission may be engaging on it if that's the case when you drop it in gear its locking the transmission up and will cause it to bog down like that,try disconnecting the wiring harness that goes to the transmission and see if that makes it stay running if it does you need a new tcc switch in the transmission,good luck with it.
