Why does my wireless internet slow down when I plug my PC into wired LAN?

I am trying to connect two computers (one win xp, the other win 7) together (that are themselves both connected to the same wireless internet connection) with a wired router for 100Mbps file sharing.

When I do this both computers either struggle to get packets from internet or don't at all.

Any pointers would be good at this stage!
 
One of your OS's is Windows 7, this is a new MS OS, in Beta still isn't it as of today 2/7/2009? When VISTA first came out there was an annoying bug that had to do with file transfers speeds. I am wondering if this bug could be something similar in windows 7.

I think you are saying that you have both computers on the wireless side of the router now and it is working fine with wireless only? Is that right?

When you connect the PC's to the wired side, are you disabling the wireless? That might help to do that. To disable, go into your network connections screen, right click the wireless and click disable.

If you are only having issues when you connect the wire, then I would also try a different Ethernet cable. Sometimes the polarity of the cable can cause a slowdown on 100 baseT.

Let us know what if you get it resolved.
