WHY does she have bell boots on?

I always see Anky with bell boots on the back. I don't see any point in this at all! Is there?

Everyone has a good answer and here's my 2 cents to add to it.
When we first bought our second horse at the age of 5, an older man rode him, and eventually used him for roping. Well we had to get splint and bell boots for his hind legs because he kept cutting himself and stepping on his own feet. So the bell boots protected him from injury.

maby she has a problem with steping on her own feet i have seen quite a few horses like that. so they want to protect her hoofs
 
Well, I do think PonyGirl is right, and so is the second answerer. She may also just do it for looks.

I don't know the answer to your question, but the other answers seem to make sense.

alli- rollkurssucks is protesting the way Anky rides. Not because she looks stupid, but because what she is doing is stupid. Anky rides her horse in rollkur, which is extreme overflexion of the neck. It is a cruel practice. Not only that, but it is pretty much cheating. In rollkur, the horse is behind the vertical, instead of being in a true frame. Dressage is about recreating the way a horse naturally moves, and you will NEVER see a horse in the wild moving like Anky make them. There is nothing classical AT ALL about rollkur. A lot of dressage riders are doing it these days, including Steffen Peters. So it really annoys me when ignorant people like you complain about things that you are not truly informed of. Just because Anky has a lot of riding experience does NOT mean that she has a lot of experience caring for horses and riding them in the least painful way. Just because she competes at a high level does NOT mean she is some walking miracle. Do you know Anky? I doubt you do. So don't assume that she is doing what's right for her horses. She obviously rides her horse in rollkur, which has been studied and proven do be extremely stressful and painful. So no, she is not all that great.
 
My friend does this with her barrel horse, because she gets burns on the bulbs of her feet so she puts bell boots on and it help prevent that.
 
Sometimes dressage horses will accidentally step on their own hooves and get cuts/injuries from it. Anky probably puts bell boots back there to prevent it.

Why not? Maybe when she was at the tack shop they were selling them buy 1 pair, get 1 pair half off and she thought it was a good deal so she bought another pair that now goes on her horses back feet!
 
I will answer your question with another question: Why does she roll her horse's neck up into a ball with his chin to his chest, then lean back, jam her feet out in front of her, and waterski off of her reins?

The answer to both of our questions: because her horsemanship makes no sense.
 
I have never seen her with bell boots other than this. She cares for her horses and doesn't think only about looks, sure those bell boots are ugly but would you rather have a chance of seeing blood in the ring?


And answer to rollkurs...

If you know so much why aren't you competing at world class levels and winning? I think you should know a little more than "well her riding position is stupid looking and I don't think she is doing it right" before you judge people who are more experinced and BETTER riders than you are!
