Why does the Lan controller, when enabled, interfere with an OS installation...

...from the CD/DVD drive? We all know it should be disabled when installing the OS but does anybody know why?
@Rute - If you have Other Devices Disabled in Boot Priority (keeping only DVD then hdd in the list), you may not need to disable the lan controller.
