Why does the park assist stay on, on my 2004 Saab 9-5 Arc?

Park assist should only be on when the car is in reverse. The electronic gear select indicator is working correctly. Does the park assist use a different switch? The cruise control works, but will not "set". Maybe it uses the same switch? If there is such a switch/sensor, where's it at?

It is most likely a bad switch down in your shifter. I suspect that your revrse lights might always be on also. That also may affect the cruise as it thinks that you should not cruise in reverse.
