Why does the south always have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the future?

Read your American history and it's quite clear that all progress is initiated by the blue states, while the red states only try to impede said progress.
 
If you read your history you would know it was the Republicans (Reds) of the North that freed the slaves from the Democrats (Blues) in the South. So it is strictly regional and not political.
