Why don't Washington residents have to pay sales tax in Oregon?

This question is really for any state, I am just using Washington (where I live) and Oregon as an example.

Washington has sales tax, Oregon does not. If an Oregon resident comes here to shop, they don't have to pay sales tax, because they live in Oregon. Why, then, don't we have to pay sales tax when we go there, since we live in Washington? Oregon residents are taxed based on where they are from, not where they currently are. For us, it is the opposite. Why?
