Why hasn't Sidney Crosby been promoted to the big leagues?

I been watching this kid play lately, he has ALOT of talent.
So my question is, why hasn't he been promoted into playing in the big leagues yet? I'm pretty sure NFL, MLB, NBA general managers are probably scouting this kid, why hasn't he been offered any sort of contract from the big leagues yet?
 
Ummm, maybe he's not a steroid junkie? That's why he's in the NHL.
