Why have Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill stopped playing until April 20th?

Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill have played a string of episodes and then they just stop. Is it something to do with the CW, or something else? There was a writers strike last year that had stopped a lot of shows from airing. There isn't one now, so whats going on?

They do hold back some episodes so that they can have the season finale during the month of May, which is considered a "sweeps" month.

"Sweeps" - is when eagerly anticipated programs are deliberately scheduled in order to boost television ratings.

I know, frustrating!
