Why is gay marriage such a polarizing issue?

I think they should give gay a special union only same sex people can get and give them more tax exemptions etc and then see what people think about it. Religious people shouldn't care or they'd be Hippocrates

They have as many rights as any other American!
I feel so insulted when they compair gay marriage to the civil rights movement
how can it be in comparison? african americans couldnt even eat in the same resturuant!
Gay people can do whatever they want with whoever they want their rights are equal!
i dont understand how civil unions are any different than marriage???

But hey, tell that to my brother. OH WAIT- You can't. He's buried several feet into the ground because a group of homophobes put him there.
