Why is interracial relationships are so controversial?

i read this article and i don't really understand why the public media called interracial relationships so controversial. That what i read from time magazine. i think that interracial relations are good! Is there a history about it?

Cos of racism. its silly. People should be allowed to have a relationship with whoever they want, regardless of race, gender or religion.
