as a car, always seem to have much poorer gas mileage?

Is it all related to gearing? If so, why don't we get a choice, geared for hauling a big load, or geared for just tooling around. I figure that half the ppl driving a pu never use it for hard pulling.

gearing does come into play, but the big issue is weight. Cars and trucks are not even close in weight. A basic Ford Ranger 4X4 V-6 weighs in at 4,300 lbs. and thats a SMALL truck,........how much does your car weigh. Also trucks are designed and built to work, they are a tool not a luxury. You but a truck to work, and a car or a bike to just tool around.
