why is Jesus so often shown as a white man?

i mean think of where he lived, grew up, where he was from. they are all brown over there.
i mean how could he work hard all day in the sun and have fair glowing skin.

Because Jesus was a god, and as a god his skin was necessarily melanin-free.
Because of this, he could absorb the power of the rays of the yellow sun and that would fuel his abilities to shoot lasers from his eyes, see through walls and clothing, and fly, among others.
 
You are correct. It mainly has to do with European depictions of Jesus modeled after a well-renowned hero of Macedonian decent- Alexander the Great.

Jesus was probably brown skinned, dark eyed, with a Jew-fro. Which is kinda cool. Many of these white christians wouldn't recognize Jesus if he was standing right in front of them.
