Why is my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee squeeling when I come to a break?

I took my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee to GoodYear this morning and had it checked out by the tech and he said that I had 50% left on my break pads...PLEASE TELL ME WHY MY JEEP IS BEING SO LOUD AND MAKING THAT SCREECHING NOISE!!!
 
Some cars has a metal that act like a sensor. When the brakes are warn out, this sensor start touching the rotor and making sound. That will indicate that you need a brake job.
