Why is my motorcycle stuck at a high rpm when I'm not even touching the throttle?

I have a 2006 BMW R650 and I dropped it going 10mph on some sand. It landed on its left and the engine cut off I think on 3rd or 4th gear. I picked the bike up and shifted it back to neutral and when I ignited the engine, the rpm meter is constantly at 2 now. As I drove back home, I noticed the RPMs constantly stayed on 2 for all 5 gears when I squeezed the clutch all the way in. Does anyone know what the heck happened to my bike?? This really sucks I mean it fell in sand not pavement.. Anyway.. help would be appreciated.

The most likely reason (and easiest/cheapest to fix) is because your throttle cable is sticking. You may have got sand inside the housing. Just pull off your grips(and any accessories you may have attached) and then clean everything around that area.

If still no bueno, trace the cable all the way down and make sure it's secure at the bottom with some free play(very little) if there is no free play, and your bike is still idling high, lemme know :)
