fish usually turn black due to temperature problems or stress. Seeing that your fish has been injected with fluorescent dyes, I would say it's probably stress. Damn, why do they do that to fish? Aren't natural looking fish beautiful enough??

Ah, the joy of being swindled. Or perhaps bad buying choices. My mother was sold four parrots, a blue, a purple, a pink and a bright yellow. Turns out all were dyed, this is incredibly common for these little guys and very harmful to their health. I'm betting this was the cause fo the white edges, when dyed, they are more susceptible to disease and illness. They are now loosing their color, mine went just like this. Yellow and pink faded into a nice oragey color, the other two weren't so lucky. They turned into this absolutely HORRIBLE black and brown, like yours, before finally fading into the orangy yellow they naturally are. He should be fine once he's lost all the dye and returne to his natural coloring.
Best of Luck!
