Why is my torrent download speed so low?

I have 3mb connection, disabled firewall, opened up ports for utorrent, found good torrent to download from, with over 1000 seeders, and not over 50 leechers, and still my speed wont go over 90kb/s.

Please, help.
tried it with speedtest.net, shows 2.9 mb
other torrents work same as well, not over 90 sometimes not over 30kbps
it is set to unlimited,
if i push 2 or more, accumulative speed is about 130kbps

The amount of configuration possibilities is so huge that if any one tried to list them all they would definately forget atleast a few. The 2.9MB dowload limit from speedtest.net is not your actual download rate, they will have more information on their site. I myself @ speedtest.net am on the boarder of 20MB/s D/L

but will only ever manage approx. max 2MB/s D/L(10%). That being said, I did not get those speeds straight of the bat. Some configuration and OS tweaking is necessary. If you have not heard of TCP/IP Limit, then it is time to start googling and brushing up on your Back-Up skills and start to tweak the OS. I have dual boot XP/Vista The first time I tweaked Vista, my down/up speed almost tripled and the data transfer was much smoother with faster writes to the HDD and shorter delays to dump the data no longer required. That being said, I had tweaked it for torrenting and all my OS resources were being used up by the high data transfer rates(so it is possible to push it too far). A registry editor can be really useful in these situations, 1 that automatically backs up every change allowing for easy restore. I use Tune-UP Utilities 2009 for the registry editor but it also has some other nice tools available.

It would help if you list you OS

Set your torrent managers download speed to unlimited?
Still don't matter how many seeds, it depends on their upload rate as well.
Try opening a series of other downloads and see if your total download rate will rise.
Also you can run a speed test to check your computers maximum transfer speed.
