Why is my Verizon phone not receiving texts from gmail?

I am trying to send a text to my verizon phone using the @vtext.com and when the text is over 160 characters it shows as successfully sending but my phone does not actually receive it. I would think the text would come through but it would be cut off at the 160 limit, but the text fails to come at all. If I send a small text (smaller than 160) the text comes no problem.
 
you need to send it from @vzwpix.com as I recall..... vtext is 2 years old, the service retired in the 3rd quarter of last year,
