Why is Obama's personal celebrity a liability, according to his opposition?

Remember Reagan? Celebrity need not equate with superficiality. In fact, if anything, it's as often shallow stereotyped thinking (or failure to think) which states that the famous are somehow inferior because of their fame.

Can we really allow a group of people whose agenda has been defeated because it was recognized as being at odds with the best interests of the average American put on a successful propaganda war to turn Obama's celebrity and tremendous charisma into a national problem?

There's no business like show business - oh wait, yes there is. Politics is just like show business.

Technically that statement would be true, but you'd have to say the same for every president since Teddy Roosevelt to be fair.

Reagan cared more about the country than himself. Obama is a classic narcissist who cares more about himself than anything. Obama supports turning our country into something that the Founders never meant it to be-socialist. Reagan honored and respected what America was meant to be-a free and independent country. America is the best country anywhere. Socialism has been a terrible failure everywhere it has been attempted-I lived in a socialist Europe-I know! Obama will hurt America and weaken the parts of America that make her great. It's like he is a big, crazed, famous bully stabbing America in her very heart. He is trying to kill what we hold dear. If Obama gets his way, first ALL dissent will be silenced-so unamerican, then he will begin to tear and rip at the very foundation of our democracy. At that point even you and your liberal friends will not like what you are seeing, but it will be too late. Obama will be an unmitigated disaster.

I don't think that Obama is superficial, it is much of the Hollywood crowd that fawn and say such foolish things. I personally am fed-up with the so-called celebrities. I think that some of realize that their lives are silly and frivolous (wealth notwithstanding) and they want to be seen as important for something other than themselves.

I did not vote for Obama but hope he does well for the country

When celebrity overrides rational scrutiny, it is a liability to this nation. It is no longer possible for the mainstream media to scrutinize Obama on the issues due to their fawning over his "celebrity". They seem determined to protect his image, giving him freedom from accountability.

At this time, Obama has blocked the courts from reviewing his birth records, from verifying that he is legally President. Yet, due to his celebrity status, the media are not giving this alarming turn of events the coverage it deserves.

To make an icon of a man is to end rational evaluation of him.
