Why is the programme Limewire looked down upon?

A few months ago, I downloaded Limewire onto my laptop. It was AWESOME! The most newest movies, HD and free! I download around two movies and then a few weeks later my sisters (14/18) are all, "DONT USE LIMEWIRE!! ITS A VIRUS!!!".

Those movies were pretty HD and music was so easy to download. How is it considered a virus?
