Why is there 6 gigs of "other" on my iphone?

When I plugged my iphone into another computer it automatically deleted all my music on my iphone. It now says it has 6 gigabytes of "other" stored on there and I have no idea how to delete it since my computer detects the iphone as a camera in "My Computer." I have checked various sites for people with the same problem, only pointing to restoring it (and if I backup it there will be still a lot of "Other"). The problem is I have a lot of contacts (including there picture, and all there info) so I don't want to do that all over again. Can someone help me please??!!
