Under the United States drug scheduling system a Schedule I drug is defined as one considered to have high potential for abuse, with no recognized medical use in treatment in the US. It seems to me that tobacco (nicotine) has an extremely high potential for abuse In that it is addictive, and as far as I know it has zero use for medical treatment. To me it seems that tobacco (nicotine) fits the description of a schedule I drug. Why does the DEA ignore this fact?

I don't know. That and fast food should be legal while marijuana should be legal.

Because tobacco has been around since before it's harmfulness was well known, and now its so powerful and makes so much money that tobacco lobbies give money to politicians so they don't pass any anti-tobacco bills.

It really is a messed up system, and right now our hope is to just stop people from using it, like by educating our youth. Unfortunately, people are stupid and when they try it they get addicted and make not using it 10x harder.

One day though, I swear this will be illegal.

i think that is a question that many of us ask ourselves it really sucks =/ but then if we made it illegal people would get it anyway throught he black market like what happened with prohibition of alcohol

Figure it out, the corporations run this country. There's too much money to be made. The bigger question is why do we still give farm subsidies for it? Same reason.

Tobacco is legal due to the fact that the US government can ,make lots of money from the taxes .
