Why shouldn't I complain to my co worker?

This morning, I saw a co worker filling in blanks on a report that I had started. So, I asked her "What are you working on?"

She said, "just filling in information that the boss asked for."

The reason I asked her is because I had spent hours researching and probably had all of the information with.
On Wednesday, I plan on showing her my stacks of research and telling her that I had all of the information right that, and I had basically wasted my time if she was doing the research too. I basically plan on saying, "Could you let me know which projects you will be working on so that I do not waste my time like that?"

Do you think this will be rude? Or is there any reason why I shouldn't raise this issue? Or should I raise the issue with the boss?

Assuming that you were not late or deficient in producing the work, you could politely ask the boss if he/she forgot that you were already working on the report. Is it possible that this co-worker took it upon herself to take over your chore? Is she simply fine tuning it for you because the boss asked her to?

In the interest of getting feedback from your boss, you could also inquire if he/she is pleased with the quality of your work. It is possible that your boss felt that you were not able to complete the task or maybe he/she thinks you would be better off doing something else.

I do wonder how your boss could assign the work to another employee without informing you. It seems like such a waste of time to duplicate efforts. If your boss firmly states that you should concentrate on another task, do as told and do the best job that you can and try not to take it personally.

Sounds like you need to get clear separation of workload. Go to the boss and suggest a way that he give ONE of you an assignment because, as in this case, both of you end up doing the same work.

I think I'd tell the boss that I had thought I was supposed to do this report by myself. Add that I was annoyed that the coworker was changing my report. Ask if she had been asked to do so, or if she had done it on her own.

Just explain your annoyed as you spent all your time doing it but she was doing it ask her why? Maybe ask your boss as well to see if heshe wanted you to do it
