...came to the age of the Universe? Famously, Einstein was originally a proponent of the 'Steady State' Universe, one that had always existed and was never created. In 1927 he in fact told the Belgium physicsist, astronomer & Catholic priest who first propose his 'Hypothesise of the Primeval Atom' (now known as the Big Bang): "Your calculations are correct, but your physics are abominable."

In fact it is only within the last 15 years that scientists have generally agreed that the Universe is over 10 billion years old, history of the estimates of the age of the Universe:

Isaac ben Samuel of Acre (13th-14th century) was a kabbalist who lived in the Land of Israel. Isaac states that, contrary to what the creation myth of Genesis says (that the world was created in 6 days), the universe is actually 15,340,500,000 years old. Isaac arrived at this conclusion by distinguishing between earthly "solar years" and "divine years," based on a verse from Psalms, which states that "A thousand years in Your sight are but as yesterday" (Psalm 90:4). If each day of a divine year is equal to a thousand earthly "solar years," then a divine year would be 365,250 years long. Isaac then makes some other calculations based on the Talmud and the Biblical sabbatical year, and arrives at the number 15.3405 billion.
