why when i try to open a link on an internet page does my computer crash?

its just started doing this. I'm fine if you choose web pages via yahoo however if i want to follow a link in a web page the computer crashes and i have to use task manager. When I use this it chucks me out of internet altogether.
i have a 5 year old advent pc with windows xp and wireless internet broadband.
what is my problem and how can i stop this happening every 5 mins?

1) Check Microsoft Update, and get all the Internet Explorer updates, if you haven't already.
2) The other thing that might help would be to upgrade your computer - RAM would probably be the best thing to upgrade for this problem.

Sounds like you have a problem with explorer, which in windows is more than just your web browser.

Quick fix, download/install/use Firefox

Best fix, im assuming you havent done any reinstalls in the 5 years, maybe its time to do so. Back up data and format/reinstall windows (this should actually be done yearly but no one does)
