Why won't my car shift to 3rd?

1970 Cadillac Calais with am automatic 3 speed transmission. New vacuum lines.
Earlier today my car ran smooth and shifted smooth. Upon leaving autozone my car engine revs went up a little and te car wouldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd. Giving it a little more gas it shifted into 3rd. Now on my way to work it will not shift into 3rd and the engine revs are going up! What could the problem possibly be? Modulator valve? Tomorrow I will check the the hose from the line tithes dilator valve. Thanks in advance people
 
With the cadillac transmission they have a shaft speed sensor that determines when the transmission will shift, that sensor might be bad or dirty. Just check that and that will most likely fix the problem.
 
Needs a new tranny, but with it's age, it would be better to get a new car.
