Why won't my iPhone 4G upgrade?

I have a iPhone 4. It upgraded the iOS 5.1 but will not upgrade to the iOS 6. I have no idea why. It will start downloading get half way done (taking 3 hours) then will say error & start all over again. Can anyone help me with this?? It is jail broken...do I need to restore it to get the upgrade or what? I have searched on the internet & can not find an answer
