Why would someone want a gay son or daughter if they acknowledge suicide

rates are higher among homosexuals? This is inspired by two questions from earlier; one asked if people acknowledged the higher suicide rate among homosexuals and the other asked if it should be permitted to abort a homosexual if it could be detected in the fetal stages.

Now, the knee jerk reaction is to say "no" to the second question, but isn't there some reasonable basis for wanting to minimize the chances that your son/daughter will commit suicide?
 
It is much more likely that my child would die in a car accident that because they turned out to be gay. While I am pro choice I never could imagine not wanting my child because they may be homosexual. Personally I have 2 boys and as long as they are healthy and happy I am good. We can't worry about suicide rates when there are far more probable chances of dying.

This Q is offensive

The fault is with heterosexuals who cause the gay death and the heterosexuals who bully the child.

The stigma is caused by the bigots.

The majority of gay people are wonderful and more rounded *because* of the difficulties they face at the hands of conservative bullies.

And we are less likely to hurt others though I enjoy trouncing homophobes in debate and I always win.

*Wanting* has nothing whatsoever to do with it. Eradicating the desire for a certain type of child panders to bigotry and homophobia which causes the gay suicide in the frist place

Your question is akin to asking 'why be jewish if someone like hitler can kill you'

Sweetie given that only 4 - 10% of the population is gay then that figure is disproportionately huge!
 
There are suicides only because people like you make the homo's life difficult. When homos are treated equally, the suicide rate will be about the same, maybe even less, because there are not the extreme differences in personality, etc., that often exist between different sexes.
 
because the reason for the suicides are not related to their personal orientation, but because of how the society treats them. i would gladly have a gay son or daughter, and raise them in a home that makes them feel safe, loved and worthy of respect. i would also continue to fight for their rights to be free from hate.
you could say "why have a black child, when they are likely to be the target of hate?" or "you should abort female children because they would likely be raped". one would think the point would be to change the society that allows it, not abort the fetus as a response and a way to give in to the hate.
 
I think there are some parents who are sort of sad their kids are gay, but that doesn't mean they love them less. It means they are sad that they lost the ideal that they hadin their heads, grandchildren, a certain type of man/woman for their kid, etc.

I think some parents ARE sad that their kids are gay, because they know the stigma is still so bad out there and that their kids won't be quite as happy with this extra, very personal, burden.

I think quite a few parents would choose to NOT have a gay child if they could. I also think quite a few parents would choose to not have a fat kid, a stupid kid, and an out-of-control juvie deliquent kid. Or a short one, or a brunette one. Etc.

It's a slippery slope that I hope we never start down.
