In your opionin when will 3D blue ray become more common and standard and will it catch on? A few years ago blue ray was over priced and not common now it is where and standard. So when will 3D blue ray become standard and should I upgrad my 2D blue ray to a 3D blue ray Player?

Well - Blu-Ray is going to be the last format to actually be put on an optical disc...though you can count on it sticking around for a while. Blu-Ray's laser can already support the 4K format that is 'next' on the horizon...so studios/labels/manufacturers will continue to use the Blu_Ray format until they figure out whats going to replace it. Most likely - it will eventually become all streaming digital.

In either case...if you have a 3D capable TV...you might as well grab the 3D Blu-Ray...as that is backwards compatible and you will never have to buy another Disc player again.

Here's Sony's release on the subject:
