Will Blu-ray disc player play regular region 1 DVD's?

Blu Ray players are full-fledged DVD players (it's actually a different laser within the Player) so the answer is that so long as the DVD can play in a traditional DVD Player, it should be compatible in a BD player.

Blu Ray/VHS combo? That would be sort of like an iPod with a Record Player attached.... don't expect to see that
