I am thinking about buying a Blu Ray Player. I have one of the older model 42 in. Samsung 1080i flat screens- It is probably about 6 or 7 years old- so it is not a THIN flat screen, it's a big bulky thing. The TV does support HD TV and in fact, the Hi-Def cable channels look pretty damn sharp. Is it worth it to buy a Blu Ray player and would it matter if it was a Samsung, Sony or PS3?

If it were me I wouldnt because those Blu Rays are expensive and they arent reverse compatible with older DVDs. But if you feel like you really want one, then it would be worth it. 1080p is better for Blu Ray. But if you want to get a PS3 do that instead because the PS3 has a Blu Ray built in. A more economical choice to a BLu Ray would be an HDDVD player. Its cheaper and the picture quality is good enough on a 1080i TV.

yes, it will still look great. i have a 1080p tv but it only displays in 1080i cuz i only have component cables but it still looks amazing on my 60" lcd rear projection sony

Blu-Ray will still look very good on this set. 1080p would be better, but blu-ray will look a ton better than an upconvert or prog. scan dvd player
