Will I be automatically charged the data package if I buy my friend's smart phone on

Verizon? If i switch my current cell number to this new smartphone, will i be charged with this data package with out calling up the Verizon store and letting them know?
And if I do switch will they inform me that I have a smartphone and now I am "Required to have a Data plan"?
I am not planning on using the internet. Just simply for calls, text, calender organization, and maybe to hold some of my music. (I really like how they look to be honest.)
Can you perform this loop hole on any other service providers like AT&T, Altel, Sprint, etc.??
 
U NEED A DATA PKG FOR SMARTPHONE..its really as simple as tht. Not complicated. Seriously if u dont wanna pay the extra money then get a flip phone or a simple phone. SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!! I dont know y ppl always complain WTF!!! If u dont wanna pay the money for data get a different phone
