My tv is not hd ,I have directv service .with a standard rca box .If i buy a hdtv receiver box will I get hd channels or better pic .this receiver I want to buy says itdecodes and has an antenna and receives in all these different signals it has hdmi connections
does directv's coax from the wall deliver hd to my hd receiver and hdtv?

You need a slimline dish, fiber optic cables from the dish to the reciever, hd receiver, hd service, and hdmi cable going to hd tv. This is how you watch hd, you cant just buy one piece and expect hd picture to magically appear

They may have to change the dish size... not sure. It would still be coax from the dish to the box. Coax can easily handle HDTV, cable companies carry HDTV, internet, and multiple (up to 12) phone line on one RG6 coax (just clarifying that since that other guy said you need fiber to the box... rofl hahahaha)

Dont' really need an HDMI, but it would be ok. The only negative about HDMi compared to component is that it's a digital connection and it needs to mate with the tv, if it runs in to software issue, it wont work properly. Component cables easily handle 1080i and dont make much of a difference unless your tv is 47" or more.

The problem with this whole thing is you don't have an HDTV to start with, so you would have 1080i hd reaching your box in digital and leaving your box with a coax or composite or s-video as 480i analog. You won't see any difference at all in picture quality...

no your tv must be HD also it you paying more for the HD channel or the receiver, do noe of two things buy a new TV or keep the standard Receiver. you can go into walmart and get really good deals on HD TVS but make sure you get 1 HDMI cable to go from your TV to the receiver instead of using the red white and yellow sound and picture cables
