I know I would have to pay roaming charges, but will it work? Do I need to do anything special for it to connect there? Thanks!

Ya,your Blackberry will work in Istanbul but you need to pay a huge amount of roaming charges.It is better unlocking your phone so you can use it in all networks.
To unlock your phone you can visit Mobileunlocker.com where they provide you with unlock code and free instructions to unlock your phone..
