So I got a new 55 gallon tank. It gots 2 filters, 2 thermometers and 1 airstone bar.
I added ph up and ph down to try and get a good ph. Also added that thing to remove harmful things from tap water.
So then I added fish. I did not know I had to cycle it for a whole month! I cycled it for like a day only.
I added these fish. 1 Blue gourami, 1 Opaline gourami and 5 golden barbs.
I added them yesterday aroune noon, and then the water got milky foggy, maybe a bacterial bloom. Well, today the water is very good and not foggy. ANyways, I tested the PH, and it seems its around 7.6.
I tested the other stuff with these test strips from walmart.
It tells me: Nitrate- Ok, Nitrite-Safe. Water-Soft, Ph-7.4, alkaline-safe.
I also got ammonia test strips, but they dont seem to work, I read the bottom date and said "08/2009" They are way over the date, they might not even work! Need to replace them later.
Anyways, I heard that if you add fish before the cycle, the ammonia could grow and kill of the fish!
Will my fish die! I heard hardy fish could resist ammonia, but dont know if my fish are hardy, will they survive?? anyone plz help, I dont want them to die! Cant return to the store, because it is pretty far. Any tips on cycling or fish care or tank care appreciated. Thanks!!
