Will "my friend" get sued for using Bittorrent?

"My friend" has stopped using bittorrent for downloading and is ordering cable television, so please don't scold me... I mean him. I am wondering what the likelihood is of getting sued by the MPAA for downloading television shows on bittorrent in the past. I know that they've been suing torrent websites, but does anyone have any idea of how often this happens to individuals? I've heard that it's been happening more lately. Thanks.

From someone who was "scolded" a few years ago and threatened with lawsuit by the RIAA. Just at the time downloading music was the biggie I can tell you that they will catch you sooner or later. Don't be fooled by those who claim "you're too little for them to go after" they came after me. The digital copyright infringement act of 1998 is very explicit in the regard of copyrighted material. http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf Isp's have been working in conjunction with the athorities since then to go after "bootleggers". It's just not worth it.

No you won't

They really don't care about little users like you. They want the website. The likeiness for your friend getting sued is 1 out of 500000

I would only use Piratebay for my torrents, I trust them not to share my info with authorities.
I been using torrents since long time ago. nothing has ever happen to me.
You should only do it for tv shows and not for applications, you might get malware if you do.
