Will my t-mobile family plan support a G1?

I am getting a G1 but I want to know if my current plan would support it... would I need a special plan for it? I have had a gravity and a t229 but I didnt get a blackberry because I would have needed to upgrade my family plan. Can I get a G1 without upgrading the family plan? Would I just put SIM card in and call number like with T229

The GI requires a smartphone data plan, similar to the blackberry plan. I think you can just add the internet plan to your line without upgrading everyone else
