My service was shut off due to non-payment.. (I lost my job 5 months ago, but now working again).. and they said I need to pay $441 to get my service back - I don't have that kind of money right now, with all these bills coming up.

Can I take my phone elsewhere? The contract was terminated by them a while ago..
 
Your blackberry can work with another phone company if its unlocked.
Unlocked phones mean it can work with any cell phone providers.
I think it only cost maybe 30 dollar for you to unlock it.
