will putting summer tires on my SUV give it better fuel economy?

2001 nissan pathfinder 4x4 with all-terrain tires. would summer tires improve fuel economy significantly? id like to keep the all-terrains in good shape for next winter
 
absolutely. How significant it will be is another story. You'll probably only get a couple miles to the gallon more.
 
yes- highway tread tires have less rolling resistance, and usually run at a higher air pressure. i have an xtra set of rims with the snows mounted on them so i can switch back & forth without having to pay for mounting & balancing each time. i can feel the difference, im sure it helps with fuel economy. also, the highway tires dont wear as fast, so there's a savings to consider too.
 
the question should be, if you don't need to go offroad, why do you have a 4x4?
