will running my truck without the detent or kick down cable hurt it?

hi i havent had the money to get the kick down cable linkage bought and ive been just putting around the yard using it to get the firewood and such not going fast at all like 5mph tops will i be ok until i can get it hooked up?
it is a 1985 GMC sierra classic 1500 the tranny was just rebuilt and i also put a new edelbrock carb on it and thats why i havent got it hooked up yet i need that bracket and to know how to do it
 
You can't hurt the truck. Just drive it and don't try to pass anyone. If you suddenly have to have more speed or power on a steep grade just shift down to 2nd by hand temporally,then back to Drive . Just pay attention,not to over-rev. the engine. OOPS my bad . Better heed Ivan's advice! I have an old truck.
 
what year and model truck? 80's or newer ford or dodge has a tv cable not a kick down and it will destroy it in short order if not hooked up. with older trucks it's not a problem. list the trans if you know what it has.
