will the cruise ship provide a sack lunch for a shore excursion if asked...

Can't ever remember it on 25 cruises. On a "long" excursion you will usually be taken to a restaurant.
To save money you can fill yourself up on the "free" ship's breakfast before you go.

Probably will not do you any harm, in fact do you good to if you just miss eating until you get back if you are either scared of buying local food or don't want to spend the money!

I have never asked, but ... no. But you could get a sandwich and such to "take back to your room'" and if it accidentally falls into your shore excursion bag, well, have the common sense not to eat within view of the ship.

Actually, I eat before I go, and eat when I get back, because there is always food being served on board. Or - it won't bankrupt you to support the local economy and eat on shore. {try for something local - like seafood, or their fresh fruit smoothies, or whatever, for a nice change of pace.}

Where's the nearest Starbuck's??!!

Edit: Some long excursions will provide lunch, so read the itinerary closely.

No they don't. In fact, they request that you don't remove any food items from the ship. I have seen some ppl tote a banana or cookie, however. I would just suggest eating real good before getting off for the day. Also, some excursions include a lunch.
