Will there be any quality loss to convert AVCHD to Divx?

I have a Camcorder that record video in AVCHD (MTS) format. I am wondering if I convert them to Divx, will there be any quality loss? If I keep the same quality, will the file size be the same or it will be smaller for Divx. I am just wondering if it worth the time to convert the file. Thank you!
The reason that I ask because I was not familiar with the AVCHD. I don't know how compress is it compare to Divx. If the compressed file are about the same, I would keep it as AVCHD. So, is AVCHD's file size as small as Divx?

WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe can convert your AVCHD camcorder shootings to Divx/Xvid AVI format while still keeps 1080p full HD quality.

Any conversion will reduce the quality 100% guaranteed, but it depends by how much. AVCHD is highly compressed, you are then going to try to compress it more, WHY!

If you use little compression then you can reduce the amount of degradation but there will be some. Anyone who works with video complains about the quality of the compression codecs used in consumer cameras, but its what there is. its better to leave the video format alone, to keep what quality there is, unless you have a real need to convert!
