I'd like to ask the people of YA what their opinion is of nuclear power.
Do you feel it's a safe way to create electricity or do you feel is a danger that will kill us all?
Or do you feel something in between.
I know how I feel
Nuclear power has taken a bum rap.
It is the safest, cleanest, most reliable form 24/7 power production we have. Since the first power plant went on line in the 1950's not one person in the USA has received a measurable dose, or an injury, due to nuclear power plants.
Coal and oil fired plants have nowhere near that safe a record.
(Please - do not bring up Chernobyl as an argument against reactor safety. The Chernobyl design cannot be compared to the reactors in use in the USA and Europe.
The reactors were designed by the Soviet Union as Plutonium Breeders for their weapons program. The design was not intended for power production. The Soviets ignored the dangers and used the design because it was cheaper, and easier, not better. They paid the price for their stupidity.)
I know I want to see more plants built.
