Windows 7 "open with..." problems?

Every time I try to download a program etc. from the internet no matter if I'm using Google chrome or internet explorer, It downloads and says "open with" and gives me a list of programs to open with such as adobe reader, iTunes and Microsoft word. How can I change it so when I download a program I can actually use it?

I am running Windows 7
