Wireless Broadband, is it like Satellite?

I just got Virginia Mountain Micro Internet, which is wireless broadband internet. I need a couple of questions answered please.

First, is it Satellite internet? If not, better than Satellite? Worse?

Second, could I play Xbox Live with it, i know you can't play Xbox Live with Satellite....So you could kill two birds with one stone with the first question.
